PlayMGM Online Casino Review

As owners of the Borgata, MGM Resorts is able to offer their own branded online casino in New Jersey. playMGM online went live in 2017 and is the first real money online casino anywhere in the world to carry the MGM name.

For those who are new to gaming, in addition to owning the Borgata, MGM owns about half of the big-name casinos on the Las Vegas Strip as well as a handful of others scattered throughout the country.

PlayMGM Games and Gaming Software

playMGM is off to a hot start in New Jersey, quickly putting together a large and varied selection of games to make up ground on established competitors. At present they have all the standard casino floor games along with a poker room and virtual sports.

The slots section of the property currently boasts 297 games in total, including 11 with progressive jackpots. Five of these have a major jackpot that starts at $2 million:

  • Luck O’ The Jackpot
  • Melon Madness
  • Loot’enkhamun
  • Biker Pigs
  • Going Nuts

Most of the progressives are exclusive to the MGM online properties (such as Borgata), as is the Aztec Myths slot.

On the virtual casino floor, you’ll also find 12 types of video poker (including Game King games), the keno-lottery hybrid Mega Ball Action, four types of blackjack, one craps table, and a Texas Hold ‘Em Bonus Poker game.

The “variety games” section is where you’ll find a mix of scratch cards, Slingo variants and some of the experimental slot games with skill-based bonus rounds (like Wheel of Fortune: Winning Words and Ghostbusters: Spectral Search).

Sports wagering is no doubt en route thanks to the recent Supreme Court decision, but for the moment there are just five types of virtual sports: Soccer, Greyhounds, Horses, Motorcycles and Cars.

playMGM is also offering a poker app that features at least 70 tournaments daily including several freerolls and a Daily 10K contest.

Mobile Device Support

PlayMGM offers mobile apps for Android and iOS devices that have nearly the full selection of games available to computer users. Most of the games are played in-browser, which means that even if your device isn’t supported by an app, you may be able to play anyway. You do have to download software to play table poker, however.

PlayMGM Live Dealer Tables

The live dealer section is small, but coming along. At present four tables are up: American Blackjack, American Roulette, Casino Hold’em and Baccarat Dragon Bonus.

New Jersey online casinos, in general, have been slow to adopt significant amounts of live dealer games, so give this area some time to build out. Tables are open seven days a week until 3 AM. They usually open for business at noon, though mid-week they may not get rolling until 2 PM.

Signup and Ongoing Bonuses

PlayMGM is offering a welcome bonus that is good until the final day of 2018. New players will get their first deposit matched 100% with the same amount of free play, up to a maximum of $1,000. The interesting thing about this promotion is that the wagering requirement to withdraw winnings from the free play is only 6x, which is much lower than is usual for online casinos (it’s generally well into the double digits). You’ll just need a minimum initial deposit of $10 to get started.

PlayMGM also offers some ongoing promotions to all players. If you’re topping up your account, you might want to wait until Wednesday to do so. If you deposit at least $50 on a Wednesday, for the rest of that day you’ll get 25% cash back on your net losses.

You’ll also see quite a few rotating weekly and monthly leaderboard contests. For example, playMGM sometimes runs a “Card Rush” promotion that gives slots players scratch cards as they spin. Those who accumulate the most points from their scratch cards share a pot of free play and prizes at the end of the month.

Finally, there are certain days where you simply log in to get a random amount of free play, with no strings attached other than a wagering requirement. playMGM particularly likes to do this on holidays and at the end of the month. They may also have a “game of the day” they are promoting that gives you 10x comp points for playing it.

PlayMGM’s iRewards Loyalty Program

The iRewards loyalty program is initially a bit confusing as it is separate from the M Life program used at MGM’s brick-and-mortar properties, but is tied in with it to a great degree.

Here’s how it works. iRewards and M Life tier points are combined for your M Life tier level. Offline play does not count toward your iRewards tier level, however. The iRewards tier system has the same structure that the M Life system has and is shared between the poker app/software and the main selection of casino games, and offers you unique online-only benefits.

As far as comp points go, you earn separate iRewards comp points for online play, but they can be used like M Life comp points at the brick-and-mortar properties. In other words, you can spend them at places like the Borgata or the Bellagio in Vegas like they are real money. Or, you can opt to use iRewards points to shop at the online iRewards store, or convert them to free play for more online gaming.

Deposit and Withdrawal Options

You can fund your playMGM account and make withdrawals with a direct bank transfer. Other options include Visa, MasterCard, and Neteller. You can make deposits and withdrawals in cash at the Borgata’s casino cage as well, and cash deposits can be made at just about any 7-Eleven using their PayNearMe system.

Customer Service

Customer service is available by phone (609-248-9531) or by email ( 24/7. There is also a live chat option at the playMGM website, though it may not be available outside of regular business hours.

PlayMGM is still getting caught up in terms of game selection, but they have some of the best bonus offers to be found in New Jersey. The interface and customer service are also very good. And if you want to put comp and tier points toward vacation getaways, playMGM and the Caesars properties give you the widest range of options.
